MALIKAH Safety Community Organizer
Job Description:
Malikah is seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Organizer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for building an issue-based campaign focused on safety in NYC by mobilizing and empowering working-class North African women and girls in Queens. You will play a pivotal role in building movement power, hosting political education events, and organizing canvasses to engage the community. The Community Organizer will work closely with community members, partner organizations, and the Malikah team to drive meaningful change and improve safety outcomes for working class people in Queens. They will be tasked with developing and running an issue based campaign in a one-year cycle that mobilizes North African / Muslim working class women and girls on an issue of safety.
Responsibilities:
Campaign Building and Mobilization:
Develop and implement an issue-based campaign focused on safety in NYC, with a specific focus on the needs and experiences of working-class North African women and girls in Queens.
Mobilize and engage community members through grassroots organizing efforts, including one-on-one outreach, community meetings, and public forums.
Build relationships and coalitions with partner organizations, community leaders, and stakeholders to amplify the campaign's impact.
Movement Building:
Foster a sense of collective power among working-class North African women and girls in Queens, facilitating their active participation and leadership within the campaign.
Organize and facilitate political education events, workshops, and training to raise awareness, build solidarity, and strengthen community organizing skills.
Develop strategies to expand the movement's reach and build alliances with other social justice organizations and community groups.
Canvassing and Outreach:
Organize and lead canvassing efforts to engage community members, raise awareness about safety issues, and mobilize support for the campaign's goals.
Train and supervise volunteers to effectively communicate campaign messages and collect data.
Track and analyze data from canvassing activities to assess campaign impact and inform future outreach efforts.
Metrics and Baselines:
Establish key metrics and baselines for success, in collaboration with the Malikah team and campaign stakeholders.
Track and report on the progress of the campaign, using established metrics to measure community engagement, policy changes, and movement growth.
Analyze data and feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and make necessary adjustments to achieve campaign goals.
Qualifications:
Commitment to social justice, gender equity, and uplifting the voices of marginalized communities.
Experience in community organizing, particularly working with diverse communities and grassroots movements.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and mobilize community members.
Knowledge of the specific challenges and issues faced by working-class North African women and girls in NYC, particularly in Queens.
Familiarity with political education methodologies and organizing techniques.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Proficiency in data collection and analysis, with the ability to use metrics to assess campaign progress and impact.
Fluency in English is required, proficiency in Arabic or French is a plus.
This is a full-time and in person role. Some evening and weekend work may be required. The salary will be commensurate with experience.
