Schedule and location: Malikah will be located in Astoria. Some work can be done remotely at flexible times, but for now the majority of the job will be done on-site, though this balance may shift.  Work schedule will regularly include some hours on evenings and weekends. 


Job Description: The Malikah Community Organizer is a neighborhood mobilizer who conducts outreach and organizes residents year round, listening to, and addressing, the individual concerns of residents. Organizers develop Astoria and Queens- based initiatives, enhancing safety and positively impacting the community and improving the overall quality of life for our community. You will be working to organize and build power for North African Muslim women in Queens. You will also help us build the vision for Malikah House, a community center and affordable housing complex for women of color in Queens. Our long-term goal is to build base power with all immigrant, Black and Brown women in Queens, first starting with North African women.


Responsibilities:

  1. Build healing justice spaces for North African women in Queens by meeting communities where they are at and hosting a ten-week healing and organizing program

  2. Manage, market and develop National Muslim Women’s Summit 

  3. Run a gender justice organizing institute for a cohort of 10 immigrant women in Queens built by Malikah

  4. Support storytelling and power building through social media, email and guerilla marketing

  5. Report to Executive Director to support strategic plan development

  6. Work closely with Malikah Strategy and Operations manager

  7. Two year commitment is required for the role

Skills: some martial arts or movement healing background, Arabic oral proficiency, canva, writing, press engagement, fundraising
