Malikah is a providing stronger and safer communities through advocacy & mutual aid.

Mutual Aid & Direct Services

At Malikah, we believe in building stronger, safer communities through a combination of direct services, grassroots organizing, and policy advocacy. Our efforts center on addressing the immediate needs of our community while also working to create lasting change through advocacy initiatives. We are committed to empowering immigrants, youth, and marginalized communities with the tools they need for safety, security, and justice.

Our Mutual Aid Programs are designed to support individuals in times of need, ensuring that everyone in our community has access to the resources and assistance required to thrive.

Through our programs, we also provide direct services such as:

  • We regularly organize hot meal and grocery distributions to ensure that families in need have access to nutritious food.

  •  We help families navigate housing resources and rights, assisting with tenant rights, legal support, and finding stable housing.

  • From legal aid to safety planning, our team is ready to help community members in crisis with immediate support and solutions.

  • We offer services in both Arabic and English for our community.

Advocacy & Policy Change

Malikah is a powerful advocate for systemic change. We understand that true power comes from both providing immediate assistance and addressing the root causes of inequities. Our grassroots organizing work has led us to take action on issues affecting immigrant and marginalized communities, advocating for policies that ensure justice, safety, and equity.

One of our proudest achievements is leading the coalition that successfully passed the MENA Bill in New York City, ensuring that the unique needs and contributions of the Middle Eastern and North African communities are acknowledged and supported. This bill, a critical step toward equality, allows for better access to resources, services, and recognition for the MENA community in New York, an often overlooked and underserved demographic.

Safety Ambassador Program (Youth Focus)

The Safety Ambassador Program is a two-year fellowship designed to empower young people from NYC public schools to become leaders in their communities. Through this program, participants receive training in organizing, self-defense, and healing programs, which they then expand and implement within their schools.

Each ambassador also works on a community-based project that addresses the unique needs of their neighborhood. This fellowship equips young people with the skills and knowledge to drive positive change, build safer spaces, and create a lasting impact on their communities.
